Fieldwork for Schools Groups
Kennet and Avon Canal
The Widcombe Locks in Bath provide a wealth of resources
so that schools groups can combine KS2 History, Geography
and Technology requirements while investigating the remarkably preserved
Kennet and Avon Canal.
HISTORY
Victorian transport and local history:
investigation of locks, bridges and canal buildings on
site, together with use of Victorian census returns
GEOGRAPHY
Environmental change in the locality:
Using detailed Victorian maps for fieldwork to identify
where change has taken place
TECHNOLOGY
Simple mechanisms and materials:
Investigation of how locks work and the materials used
in locks and bridges
